I like the way your going with the color scheme and the lighting. Really gives it a good effect. I do wish I knew what was happening in the environment on the right side though, it that where the night sky is? What you have though is really good, especially the reflection off the water.
A little more detail on the foal might help as well, not quite sure. Other than that there is a good amount of characterization for both of them. You really do get the impression of that family bond. This is really good work, keep it up.
